Official inauguration of the STEM-UPG center

GITEGA, August 2nd (ABP) – The Polytechnic University of Gitega (UPG), in partnership with the STEM POWER organization, organized on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, in Gitega (central Burundi), the inauguration ceremonies of the STEM-UPG center, which aims to propel innovation in science, technology, engineering and mathematics through the supervision of the youths, a check by ABP revealed.

The inauguration of the STEM-UPG center took place after training for students and teachers on the development of embedded systems with Arduino by STEM POWER, in partnership with UPG. The training was closed by the granting of certificates to the participants.

In his speech, the regional representative of STEM POWER, Mr. Espoir Serukiza, said that the inaugurated STEM-UPG center is an investment in the future of students and in the advancement of research and innovation. This will play a crucial role in promoting academic excellence, they said.

Mr. Serukiza also indicated that the STEM-UPG center will be a place of exchange that will headquarter creativity and discovery, which, according to him, will encourage young talents to engage in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Taking the floor, UPG Vice-Chancellor Silas Sayumwe warmly thanked the STEM POWER organization for the generous donation of computers and for the embedded systems training organized for students and some research professors of that university in order to develop advanced skills and acquire expertise that will be decisive for their professional careers.

According to him, this support will help bridge the gap between theory and practice by providing concrete and applicable skills in the real world.

Dr. Sayumwe called on the leaders of that University to exploit those resources optimally to maximize their impact. He indicated that they will continue to work diligently to ensure that the computers received as well as the embedded systems training are fully beneficial to the students and researchers of the said university. The Director in charge of Academic Affairs at UPG, Dr. François Xavier Senene, said that innovation and STEM are the key to eliminating poverty and achieving sustainable development, hence, he reassured, we must expect a better tomorrow, provided that innovation and STEM are well promoted for young people.
