BUJUMBURA, August 2nd (ABP) – The mayor of the city of Bujumbura, Mr. Jimmy Hatungimana, held a meeting on July 31, 2024, for administrative officials and other services working in Bujumbura city, to discuss the Mpox epidemic, which was just declared on July 25 by the ministry in charge of public health.
Mr. Hatungimana announced that following this epidemic, barrier measures have been put in place as an instruction, in order to combat it. This involves avoiding any contact with animals, with any person showing signs of this disease, avoiding any bodily contact and washing hands regularly with soap and drinking water.
According to Hatungimana, all places where many people meet, for example in markets and bus parking lots, holders of a kiosk, a stall or a store and each will have to put a drinking water kit in front of these places, so that passengers can wash before entering to buy goods.
He did not forget to send the message to representatives of religious denominations to sensitize Christians on this pandemic and to set up taps in series that will allow Christians to wash before entering the Home of God.
In households, these conditions will be the same, he said. In restaurants, people are called on not eat meat that is not sufficiently cooked and, to also check if this meat came from known butchers.
The speakers pleaded that they do not see how to protect themselves against this pandemic by using drinking water, while there is currently a shortage of drinking water in the city of Bujumbura. Mr. Hatungimana indicated that there is a team from the Office of the President, which will work with that of the city to try to identify everywhere, where there are fountains that are not supplied, in order to be able to replenish them with clean water.
Mr. Hatungimana urged everyone to scrupulously respect the measures as they are decided by the health facilities, in order to fight against this disease.
