BUJUMBURA, August 1st (ABP) – The President of the Republic of Burundi, Evariste Ndayishimiye, received on Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at the Ntare Rushatsi House, the special envoy of the President of Congo Brazzaville Dénis Sassou Nguesso, Mrs. Arlette Soudan Nonault who is Minister of the Environment and Executive Secretary of the Congo Basin Climate Commission (CCBC), which aims to accelerate the implementation of the climate transition and the economic transformation of the Congo Basin in a sustainable development logic.
At the end of the audience, Mrs. Nonault said that she was first carrying a congratulatory message from the President of Congo Brazzaville Dénis Sassou Nguesso to his Burundian counterpart Evariste Ndayishimiye. These congratulations are in line with the fact that the Burundian Head of State is committed to promoting and protecting the environment to achieve sustainable development.
In their meeting, it was an opportunity to present to the Burundian number one leader, the protocol establishing the Congo Basin Climate Commission which was signed by other countries on November 16, 2016 at a time when the special envoy of Burundi at that time did not have an official mandate to sign this protocol on behalf of the Burundian State. The President of the Republic of Burundi affixed his signature to the said document during that audience.
Mrs. Arlette Soudan Nonault did not forget to thank the President of the Republic of Burundi for the warm welcome they had received with her delegation. She hopes that in the area of cooperation, Burundi which is ahead in the agricultural sector compared to Congo Brazzaville, will share its experiences with that country.
