BUJUMBURA, August 1st (ABP) – The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) signed, on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, a partnership with the social enterprises 3hi Africa and mediabox, which concerns the education of young people in the fields of new technology (ICT).

The UNFPA Resident Representative, Mr. Judicaël Elidje, indicated that this partnership aims to promote young Burundians to have opportunities in the labor market, to strengthen social cohesion and to take advantage of the potential in the entrepreneurial field.

According to Mr. Elidje, the employability of young people in Burundi remains a major challenge that hinders development, so we must work with them to help them look for employment. He said that in collaboration with 3hi Africa, this partnership will bring a change for those young people, in order to achieve the goal.

For Mrs. Larissa Byll Cataria, Executive Director of 3hi Africa, this partnership is based on building capacities among young people, not only to prepare them for the world of labor, but also to train them to be competent entrepreneurs. This training aims to encourage these young people to become good leaders in society and in the Burundian community, she said.

As for the Director General of Mediabox, Mr. Donatien Ndayishimiye, he indicated that this partnership helps those young people with digital education for employability and strengthening the development of the digital platform in Burundi. He added that he signed an agreement with five universities in the fields of technology, to help them access other technological resources. He noted that over the course of three years, they will strive to create a significant impact, so that young graduates are no longer forced to look for job. Note that these five universities are the Polytechnic University of Gitega, Université Sagesse d’Afrique, University of Ngozi, Burundi International University and the Christian University of Burundi.
