CANKUZO, August 1st (ABP) – The health province of Cankuzo has recorded a significant drop in malaria cases since 2022.

The medical director of the Provincial Health Office in Cankuzo, Dr. Frédéric Faustin Irambona, said this during a partners’ coordination meeting organized on Tuesday, July 30, a check on-the-spot by ABP has revealed.

Dr. Irambona notes that the province of Cankuzo has never experienced the alert threshold for malaria during the last 30 weeks, specifying instead that there has been a significant drop in cases of this disease.

Indeed, he said, for 1000 inhabitants, there are less than 100 positive cases of malaria, and per week, at the level of the entire province, only 40 people test positive for malaria.

On the other hand, before 2002, the province recorded more than 200 cases of malaria per week.

The province of Cankuzo owes this success to the efforts made related to the use of mosquito nets for pregnant women and their children.

“All pregnant women and their children receive mosquito nets to protect themselves against this disease, he said.

In addition, the strategies of indoor spraying, the various advice given at the community level are auguring good results.

Dr Irambona also reports the strategy of daily surveillance of cases of this disease by community health workers in order to always be aware of the situation of that disease.
