BEIJING, August 1st (Xinhua) — The 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit will be held from September 4 to 6 in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying announced on Tuesday.

The theme of the summit is “Joining hands to promote modernization and build a high-level China-Africa community with a shared future,” Hua said, adding that leaders of African FOCAC members will attend the summit at the invitation of the forum.

Representatives from African regional organizations and relevant international organizations will participate in the forum’s events, she added.

At a regular press briefing on Tuesday, another spokesperson Lin Jian said this year’s FOCAC Summit will hold its fourth edition, during which the two sides will jointly renew their friendship, discuss cooperation and chart the course for the future.

He said meetings of high-level officials and ministers will be held on September 2 and 3, respectively, to prepare for the summit. From September 4 to 6, a series of activities will be held, including the opening ceremony, the welcome banquet, the China-Africa entrepreneurs conference and bilateral meetings. “This is the second time that the families of China and Africa have gathered in Beijing after the 2018 FOCAC Summit,” Lin said.

Noting that mutual respect, equal treatment and joint consultation are important features of the FOCAC, he said the two sides have been in close communication and consultation on related preparatory work, including relevant activities of the summit. China and Africa will continue to carry forward the spirit of China-Africa friendship and cooperation, and make the summit another grand event to enhance China-Africa friendship and unity.

“We believe that with the joint efforts of both sides, the 2024 FOCAC Summit will be a great success, opening up new horizons in China-Africa relations and writing a new chapter in building a China-Africa community with a shared future,” Lin added.
