RUMONGE, Jul 29th (ABP) – Burundi’s First Lady Angeline Ndayishimiye launched, on Friday, July 26, 2024 in the city of Rumonge, a “Zero Waste Movement” project, where she joined the inhabitants of that locality in the work consisting of cleaning the gutters surrounding the central market.

This project, officially launched on March 19, 2024 in Bujumbura, is the result of an agreement signed by the First Lady of Burundi and that of Turkey, Mrs. Ndayishimiye said.

According to her, cleaning is also the initiative to protect the environment and health. Thus, everyone is called upon to take ownership of this project in order to promote good health and a healthy environment. In this case, development will continue, meaning that we cannot talk about development without talking about good health.

She especially insisted on the cleanliness of households and workplaces, pointing the finger at the tailors whose workplaces are often threatened by waste. She asked them in particular and the inhabitants of the city of Rumonge in general, to make trash cans available to keep the city clean, without forgetting households and workplaces.

The Burundian First Lady, however, thanked the inhabitants of the city of Rumonge for taking the lead in the fight against dirty-hand diseases that were observed there in previous years. For her, this is a sign which shows that the “Zero Waste” initiative of the Office of the First Lady of Burundi for Development (OPDD) will succeed in that city of the country.

She did not forget to talk about unwanted pregnancies in schools. This situation is an obstacle that must be eliminated, since a victim is often unable to take care of their own cleanliness and that of their child.

Parents are, in turn, called upon by the First Lady to encourage dialogue with their children and to take care of them by providing them with their needs.

Note that public trash cans were given on that occasion to the Rumonge District to be used for waste collection.
