RUYIGI, July 11th (ABP) – The governor of Ruyigi province (eastern Burundi), Mrs. Emerencienne Tabu, advises the population of her province, and especially parents with children of school age, to redouble their efforts in respect their rights and prevent any form of alienation towards them.
Mrs. Tabu recognizes that this province still has certain shortcomings in respecting children’s rights and invites everyone to improve. She launched this appeal on Friday July 5, 2024, at the end of the celebration, in that province, of the Day dedicated to the African child.
Governor Tabu said that certain fundamental rights of children are not sufficiently respected, and especially on the border of Burundi with Tanzania, where there is a form of trafficking of human beings who leave to seek a better life on the other side of the border and most of whom are used on plantations for illusory seasonal wages which are also denied to them, for some, when they try to demand a return to their native country.
Mrs. Tabu suggests to the inhabitants of her province to introspect and project the future of their children to overcome any form of future obstacles likely to prevent them from accessing sustainable development. She calls on them to bring together their strengths and knowledge so that the future of Ruyigi’s child can serve as an example of physical and intellectual well-being for the rest of the country.
For his part, the representative appointed by non-governmental organizations working in that province in the field of child protection, Mr. Cléophace Sahabo, recalled that the rights of each child begin at conception. He invited all people who have children, and especially pregnant women and their husbands, to avoid any form of domestic violence because the future child who will be born is a silent participant who listens to the scenes taking place outside and who risks adopting behavior linked to their daily experience during pregnancy. The child has several other rights, including good food, good housing, schooling and health care, he also recalled.
The two authorities call on all residents of Ruyigi to no longer remain indifferent to the rights of their children.
