GITEGA, July 4th (ABP) – The President of the Republic of Chad, General Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno, who attended the celebrations of the 62nd anniversary of Burundi’s independence in Gitega (central Burundi), has said that the commemoration of Independence Day is a better opportunity to pay tribute to all the founders and liberators for the sacrifices they made to achieve the independence of a country, a check on the site by ABP has disclosed.

Since independence, Burundi and Chad have all gone through difficult times, said President Itno, pointing out that those two friendly countries share the same motto of unity, work and progress. He paid tribute to the friendship and fraternity that has always existed between Burundi and Chad and said that cooperation between African countries should be a priority.

“South-South cooperation is a factor that will unite Africa and allow it to develop, because it is a continent of the future,” stressed the Chadian President. He cited the example of Burundi, which produces tea that is appreciated abroad. As Chadians are major consumers of tea, we could imagine a partnership in the near future that would allow the exchange of that product, he suggested, adding that Burundians could find products or services to import from Chad. Finally, he pointed out that Burundi and Chad had many common interests to defend and shared values, including the motto “unity-work-progress”.
