MAKAMBA, July 2nd (ABP) – Members of the Burundian government held a public broadcast from the Makamba stadium on Friday 28 June. They answered questions from journalists and the public, as reported on the site.
In his opening address, Prime Minister Gervais Ndirakobuca urged the population to preserve their harvests, cultivate the marshes for the C season, plant vegetable gardens and start rearing livestock. Mr Ndirakobuca called on young people going on holiday to help their parents in their daily empowerment activities.
To address the shortage of foreign currency, the Prime Minister is urging the population to increase production in order to have products to export.

As Burundi heads into the election period, Mr Ndirakobuca urged the population to avoid rumours and called on the leaders of the political parties to draw up plans for society that would benefit the population.
In the wake of repeated power cuts in recent days, Ibrahim Uwizeye, Minister of Hydraulics, Energy and Mines, has announced that the government is preparing to improve the electricity network in the city of Bujumbura.
Minister Uwizeye noted that the machinery at the Rusumo Falls hydroelectric dam will soon be replaced, while Kaburantwa 16 is ready to supply 10 MW in the near future.
To address the fuel shortage, Mr. Uwizeye said pump attendants had been instructed to serve public transport vehicles before others.
Asked about the Senate President’s suggestion that the measure banning the use of motorcycle taxis and tricycles in demarcated areas be reviewed, the Prime Minister said experts would look into the recommendation to see if the initial safety problems had been resolved.
