KARUSI, June 29th (ABP) – On Tuesday 25 June 2024, the First Lady of Burundi, Mrs Angeline Ndayishimiye, visited the fiftieth anniversary of the Natwe Turashoboye hospital in Karusi (east-central Burundi), where she donated an envelope containing 13,395,160 BIF to discharge 16 people who had been treated at the hospital but were unable to pay the hospital fees.

Mrs Ndayishimiye made that gesture a few days after the end of the prayer of thanksgiving organised by the presidential family in the province of Mwaro on the occasion of the 4th anniversary of the inauguration of the President of the Republic, Mr Evariste Ndayishimiye. Thinking of the weakest is a way of giving glory to God”, Mrs Ndayishimiye stressed, adding that “faith without works is no faith at all”.

Burundi’s First Lady took a food parcel containing beans, rice, porridge flour, palm oil, salt and juice, as well as loincloths for 100 of the most vulnerable or chronically ill people. She urged anyone with the means to do so to help the poor.

However, she advised people who pretend to be vulnerable when they have the means to do so to break that bad habit.

The medical director of the Cinquantenaire Hospital, Dr Protais Baribarira, thanked the First Lady for her humanitarian gesture.

He pointed out that the Cinquantenaire Hospital, which is celebrating its tenth anniversary, is unable to accommodate all the paediatric and maternity cases.

As a result, the hospital’s management has decided to build new reception facilities to meet the ever-increasing demand for accommodation. Work on the extension of the children’s ward has already been completed and work on the maternity ward is underway.
