KIRUNDO/NGOZI June 3rd (ABP) – Officials of Muyinga and Ngozi provinces say they are satisfied with the achievements of the Tubura program in those provinces, in relation to the capacity building of farmers.

During a harvest trip that took place on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, in Gasorwe commune, Buringa hill, the chief of staff in the office of the governor of Muyinga province, Mrs. Denise Ndaruhekere, indicated that farmers have visibly improved their farming techniques.

She recommended that the Tubura program also think about supporting cropping season C to cultivate all seasons, and therefore increase agricultural production. That administrative authority also recalled the government’s program related to raising rabbits, saying that each household must raise at least five rabbits. One of the beneficiaries of the Tubura program said that he previously did not exceed 200 kilograms of maize, but that with this program, he is able to harvest more than 600 kilograms. The communication officer within the Tubura program, Mr. Ivan Marre Intungane, indicated that their organization focuses in that province for the intensification of the cultivation of maize and beans, as well as the protection of the environment, by growing agro-forestry species. He added that they also proceed to the granting of agricultural inputs so that those farmers can harvest enough

In Ngozi province, farmers from Karungura village, in Mwumba commune, claim to have significantly increased maize and bean production this year, thanks to support from the NGO Tubura. The latter trains them in modern farming techniques, offers them reimbursable seeds and mineral manure. Rosette Ndikumana, one of the farmers from that village, who spoke with a check by ABP, said that the maize and bean harvest has increased by three or even four times.

The governor of Ngozi province, Emmanuel Ntaconsanze, who went on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, to the fields of peasants under the supervision of Tubura on the said hill, said he was very satisfied with the level of supervision and the harvest. He asked the farmers benefiting from that supervision to perpetuate the experience even after the departure of that NGO. He also urged those farmers to preserve the acquired harvest well and not to waste it.
