MWARO January 30th (ABP) – The Minister of National Solidarity, Social Affairs, Human Rights and Gender, Mrs. Imelde Sabushimike, visited Mwaro province on Wednesday, January 25, to collect the grievances of the people.

Most of the complaints addressed to the Minister related to cases of divorce, men who abandon their families and bastard children who have been denied by their fathers.

On those grievances, Mrs. Sabushimike ordered the representatives of the ministry at the level of the communes in charge of the family issues, to make visits to the families to find solutions in time. Other concerns were about some families living under the rule of others as the – Ubugererwa – system was abolished in the 1972s. Mrs. Sabushimike replied that the administration needs to take up this issue. They also talked about the poorest households that need iron sheets for their homes. On this, she asked the local administration to draw up lists, noting that the selection will be made because those who need it are many throughout the country.

In welcoming the minister, the governor of Mwaro province, Mr. Gaspard Gasanzwe, clarified that the ministry responsible for solidarity has already given iron sheets to the vulnerable. It has also supported people with disabilities, albinos, indigenous people and vulnerable women by providing means for self-development. Thus, he revealed, 1100 women from Ndava, Nyabihanga and Rusaka communes have benefited from the capital to embark on development projects, and requests that this activity continue in the remaining communes.
