KARUSI January 27th (ABP) – The opening of the Rusi multi-sectoral school in Shombo commune, the establishment of a public university or at least one of the university faculties would solve the problem of school dropout after general and technical education, which is undermining the education sector in the Karusi province, these are some of the questions raised by the participants in the meeting of the Minister of Education and Scientific Research, François Havyarimana, with the teaching staff, the office of the governor and the communal administrators, and the people on Wednesday, January 25, 2023.

The province of Karusi has built enough basic schools and post basic schools; 255 schools in total, according to the governor, Mrs. Devote Nizigiyimana. It registers 153,537 students and 2,831 teachers and shares the same problems as other school provinces, she said.

In addition, the province ranks first in the national competition and the State examination on several occasions, Mrs. Nizigiyimana said with joy. However, the school province of Karusi is experiencing serious loss after such a success, due to the lack of financial means for the support of university candidates, she added. There is an urgent need to open the Rusi multi-sectoral school in Shombo commune and to have a public university, according to the participants.

Minister Havyarimana, who congratulated and encouraged the students and their teachers for the very satisfactory results received during more than five successive years, promised the opening of that multi-sector school of Rusi, including its legal framework and its equipment. As for the creation of a university, Minister François Havyarimana asked for the presentation of the premises for lectures and accommodation, as the only condition.

In his speech, the Minister of Education and Scientific Research presented the major problems of his ministry, the problems raised during the general assembly of June 2022. Those include the lack of teachers, educational materials, school benches and subsidies, especially in boarding schools.
