BUJUMBURA December 30th (ABP) – Around 190 households in the Kibenga Lac neighborhood located in the urban zone of Muha, were flooded by the water from the Kanyosha River, which deviated following heavy rain that fell overnight from December 25 to 26, 2022, a check on the site by ABP has revealed.

The victims of that incident ask the State or any other benefactors to come to their aid before the situation worsens.

The inhabitants met at the scene of the tragedy are in total desolation. They indicate that the damaged objects are, among other things, the equipment of the houses, the houses themselves, the school materials of the pupils and many other objects.

The poorest families moved and gathered at the police station of that locality where they are homeless without having enough to eat.

They ask to be assisted in food and non-food items: “What is urgent is to assist us by giving us food, blankets, mosquito nets, clothes, because all our belongings have been washed away by the runoff”, some locals said. The latter are also afraid of dirty hand diseases which could, at any moment, catch them or their children who spend most of their time swimming in stagnant water.

They ask for support to clean out the mouth of the Kanyosha River and put it back in its bed.
