NGOZI July 12th (ABP) – Preparations for the 2022 C cropping season are well underway in Ngozi province. As observed on site, the marshes have been plowed for more than 90%. The farmers interviewed in the Nyacijima1 marsh in the commune of Ngozi specify that: “We are at work to finish plowing before July 15 and proceed with sowing. We have already understood, there is no more time to lose. Cropping season C is as profitable as the other cropping seasons. There is no justification for sitting back as was the custom in years past, arguing that it is the dry season, they stressed.

Those farmers don’t seem to be bothered by the summer sun. They say they are ready to water the fields, the water from Nyacijima being in very satisfactory quantity. Regarding the seeds and other necessary inputs, agricultural officials in Ngozi claim to have been well prepared.

At the Provincial Office of Environment, Agriculture and Livestock in Ngozi, improved bean and maize seeds are available in sufficient quantity. The kilo of hybrid maize is bought at 4950 BIF. Regarding organo-mineral fertilizers, stocks are in sufficient quantity. Farmers are in the process of paying at the Régie Nationale des Postes and in the microfinance partners of the FOMI factory. Note that food production in season B was excellent in Ngozi province. Bean, rice, maize, potato, sweet potato and banana crops experienced a production boom, which caused a significant drop in market prices.
