MWARO June 26th (ABP) – The Burundi Head of State, Mr. Evariste Ndayishimiye enhanced with his presence, Thursday, June 23, in Mwaro province (central-west of Burundi), the national Olympic day under the theme ” Let’s get involved in sport, the source of good health and development”. The ceremonies took place on the ground of Gatare village in Gisozi commune where the modern stadium “Gasumo ka Mwaro” is planned to be built.
In his speech, President Ndayishimiye indicated that we must strengthen sports activities. He said that sport has an important place in building peace. If young people are united, the country is peaceful, added President Ndayishimiye, stressing that we must take advantage of the peace that reigns today to promote development. For Burundi to be internationally recognized in different sports fields, it is necessary to discover talents, the important thing being to achieve the objective that we have set ourselves, he added. He advised parents to prepare children for sport from an early age. For him, sports teams must be formed from the hills to the provinces to have strong and internationally competent young athletes.
President Ndayishimiye noted that sports activities strengthen the country’s health, social cohesion, peace and economic development.
This national Olympic day saw the participation of the population of Mwaro and its surroundings, parliamentarians elected in this constituency, executives and senior executives’ native to Mwaro, members of the various sports federations as well as the National Olympic Committee of Burundi (NOC).
