KIRUNDO May 31st (ABP) – The Agro-Pastoral Development and Promotion Cooperative (CDPAP) based in the headquarters of Kirundo province (north of Burundi) has a poultry farm with 3,000 chickens, a check by ABP revealed.

The representative and founder of that organization, Mr. Evariste Ntaryamira, indicated that after his studies in Russia and France, he thought of founding that cooperative to support the government program aimed at increasing production.

Mr. Ntaryamira said that their cooperative plans to extend this poultry farm up to 10,000 chickens, adding that they will also carry out agribusiness. He indicated that their capital is estimated at 120 million BIF. That cooperative has hired ten people and plans to hire ten more after the extension of the poultry farm.

The governor of Kirundo province, Mr. Albert Hatungimana, thanked the initiators of that organization, arguing that they are supporting the government’s program aimed at encouraging people to join cooperatives in order to raise the production.

The provincial governor also stressed that those highly qualified young people must always serve as an example to their peers to encourage them to develop themselves. He invited the youth of Kirundo to take advantage of that good initiative by visiting that cooperative with a view to acquiring knowledge that can help them in their development.

It is worth noting that the CDPAP intends to produce and process the food for that poultry itself, especially maize and soybeans, noted Mr. Ntaryamira, adding that there are also plans to set up the incubator to produce more chicks to popularize for the people to have the spirit to make small henhouses, and as a result, to consume the products resulting from that activity.
