The President of DR Congo continues his visit to Gitega province

GITEGA May 24th (ABP) – The Burundian Head of State, Mr. Evariste Ndayishimiye, and his counterpart from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Mr. Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, on a visit to Burundi, carried out a displacement, in the province of Gitega (center of the country), Sunday, May 22, 2022.

Upon their arrival in the political capital of Burundi, Gitega, the two distinguished personalities were greeted by a jubilant crowd waving flags from both countries. They stopped at the mausoleum of the former President of the Republic of Burundi, the late Pierre Nkurunziza, where the presidential couple of the DR Congo made a meditation after laying a wreath there.

       The two Heads of State visits the VASO cooperative

The two Heads of State continued their visit to the headquarters of the Institute for Agronomic and Zootechnical Research (IRAZ), part of the Economic Community of the Great Lakes Countries (CEPGL), bringing together Burundi, Rwanda and the DRC. That institute is established in the locality of Mashitsi, in the Kiriba zone of the Giheta commune.

Guided by two staff members of the institute in question, they visited its infrastructure and learned about its state of play. Subsequently, they went to a basic seed multiplication farm run by the Soil Valuation Cooperative (VASO) in the same locality of Mashitsi. This farm consists of 15 hectares including 10 hectares of potatoes and 5 hectares of millet. After Mashitsi, they went to a farm of the Burundian president located in the Bitare zone, in the commune of Bugendana.

On their return to Gitega, the two personalities ended their trip with a visit to the construction site of the presidential office of Gitega, located in the enclosure of the presidential palace of Gitega.

Note that President Tshisekedi Tshilombo placed a stone against the wall of the building under construction to show his support for the activities in progress.
