The governors of the provinces are mobilized to fight against the “ligalas” in their respective entities

GITEGA May 9th (ABP) – The President of the Republic of Burundi, Mr. Evariste Ndayishimiye met behind closed doors on Friday May 6, 2022 in Gitega (center of the country) all the governors of the provinces of Burundi to discuss the situation that prevails in the country particularly in the areas of food security, the preservation of peace and security, socio-economic development and the promotion of good governance.

The President’s spokesperson, Mrs. Evelyne Butoyi, said that in the field of security, they noted that peace and security reign in all the provinces of the country and on all its borders, except that there were a few cases of killings in certain localities of the country.

There, President Ndayishimiye gave the example of Ngozi province where a young university student was killed. Starting from this example, the President’s spokesperson pointed out that President Ndayishimiye had launched a strong appeal to the governors to invest a lot so that security is established throughout the country.

Ms. Butoyi reported that the president asked them to fight against the ligalas in their provinces, precisely to fight against insecurity throughout the country, because according to her, that is where people with bad intentions develop. According to her, the ligalas is also one of the many factors that annihilates production and development in all areas of life in the country.

The president’s spokesperson also reported that in this meeting, the president and the governors of the provinces of Burundi jointly analyzed the level of development in Burundi.

According to Mrs. Butoyi, the President of the Republic noted that there is currently food security in all the provinces of the country, from which he thanked these governors of the provinces, for the fact that they invested themselves first in this area and mobilized civil servants as well as the population to invest heavily in agriculture and livestock farming to increase production, so that every mouth has something to eat and every pocket has money.

On the good governance side, the President’s spokesperson said that President Ndayishimiye called on the governors of the provinces to mobilize the entire population to be responsible for public affairs and to be good coordinators in their respective constituencies. He also invited the administrators to be good managers of public things by returning to the State all its properties illegally invaded by the population.

Note that during the meeting, the Minister of the Interior, Community Development and Public Security, Mr. Gervais Ndirakobuca pointed out that in Cankuzo province in Munzene village in Mishiha commune, there is an islet where for a long time inhabited by the Burundians, but that currently the Tanzanians can appropriate it. According to the Minister of the Interior, there are more than 300 ha of properties that were exploited by Burundians, but following the displacement of the Maragarazi River, these hectares are currently on the side of Tanzania. According to him, his ministry is writing a report that he will send to the presidency of the republic to manage these situations with Tanzania.
