BUBANZA April 29th (ABP) – Women and girls are being called to cut short the mentality that there are trades or professions for men only. That appeal was made to them by Mrs. Marie Gretta Hatungimana, a woman from the Bubanza commune (north-west of Burundi), who currently practices masonry and washes cars and motorcycles.

Aged 26, she lives in Buhororo village in Bubanza commune and is the mother of two children. She says she has already understood that there are no trades or professions for men only. Met on Wednesday April 27 in the provincial capital, washing vehicles and motorcycles, she indicated that she had just spent a year in masonry where she was building houses, and that she is currently washing automobiles and motorcycles. She says that this occupation allows her to support her family because, she continued, she can wash up to 6 motorcycles and more than 6 vehicles per day. She is delighted with her credibility with owners and drivers of vehicles and motorcycles.

Mrs. Hatungimana calls on other women and girls to learn all the trades that can help them support their families, and break the mentality that there are jobs for men. She asks those who need masons and owners of motorcycles and vehicles to trust her, by giving her work.
