The governor of Ruyigi has paid a visit to the United Republic of Tanzania

RUYIGI April 29th (ABP) – The authorities of Ruyigi province and those of Kibondo district in Kigoma province of the neighboring United Republic of Tanzania pledge to eradicate cross-border banditry once and for all and call on the people to provide timely information to better ensure their safety.

That emerges from a two-day visit, which has just been made by Governor Emerencienne Tabu of Ruyigi province to Kibondo district in Tanzania, with the aim of strengthening good neighborly relations. Traders and businessmen working in the two regions are called upon to exchange goods, experiences and knowledge in order to better contribute to the development of the two regions.

The agenda of this visit was mainly articulated in three points, namely security, education and trade between these two border regions. The governor of Ruyigi province, Mrs. Emerencienne, said that security between the two regions is generally good, but that there are still a few groups of bandits operating in this sector. She indicated that from December 2020 until April 07 of this current year, 10 motorcycles and 6 cows stolen in Tanzania were seized in Burundi and that the Burundian police in collaboration with the local administration ended up handing them over. all this booty to the Tanzanian authorities. She also pleaded for both countries to take another step in preventing any danger and potential threat to the tranquility of their respective populations. She asks that all the cores and nests of these thugs can be identified and listed so that they are definitively uprooted and destroyed.

On behalf of the Tanzanian population, the Kibondo district chief, Mr. Adrey John Mugwiza expressed his gratitude to the Burundian delegation and for all the efforts that the authorities of Ruyigi province to guarantee security in particular and good neighborhood in general. He promised that his district will spare no effort so that peace and tranquility can always be a reality and that any likely source of insecurity is discouraged and neutralized.

Regarding cross-border trade in particular and the development of the two countries in general, these two authorities have asked the businessmen of Ruyigi and Kibondo to better plan their collaboration and also improve their exchange of goods, knowledge and experience. Above all, they were recommended to abandon the bad practice, which it was said consists, on both sides, of stocking up on goods on credit and disappearing into thin air, when they find that they are no longer able to pay the debts they have incurred.
