BUJUMBURA April 27th (ABP) – The Burundi Writers Association (ASEB) – Burundian Association of Writers and Book Promoters (ABEPL) consortium organized, on Monday April 25, 2022 in Bujumbura, a two-day workshop for reflection on the world book celebration, under the theme “Writing and promotion of fiction in Burundi” to raise awareness among the Burundians on the importance of reading.
According to the president of ABEL, Mrs. Jeanne d’Arc Nduwayo, this workshop is a good opportunity for writers who are members of those two associations to combine efforts for the promotion of books.
Asked why many Burundians do not read, Mrs. Nduwayo said that in Burundi many people do not have access to books.
She took this opportunity to invite Burundian writers to make a lot of effort for the diversification and quality of the book to encourage people to love reading.
She appealed to the government to promote the writer. She therefore proposed the organization of competitions, the multiplication of cultural centers, booksellers and libraries so that people could have access to those books.
