The Burundi Red Cross has handed over 375 model houses to the vulnerable in Mishiha commune

CANKUZO April 26th (ABP) – On Saturday April 22, 2022, the Burundi Red Cross handed over model houses to vulnerable people in Mishiha commune of Cankuzo province, a check on the site by ABP has revealed.

In his welcoming address, the communal administrator of Mishiha, Mr. Frédéric Nzoyisaba expressed his feelings of thanks to the Red Cross for its initiatives.

However, due to the fact that the commune hosts a large number of returnees, the vulnerable living in straw houses still exist.

Mr. Nzoyisaba asked the Red Cross to continue its contribution to the development of other families.

As for the governor of this province, Mr. Boniface Banyiyezako, he said he was satisfied with the collaboration and support of this movement in the development of the people. He asked that such a project be extended throughout the province. Mr. Banyiyezako urged the beneficiaries to take care of these houses. He also called on them to roll up their sleeves to serve as an example in development work.

Speaking on behalf of the ministry in charge of solidarity, Governor Banyiyezako thanked the Red Cross for taking the lead in supporting the government’s efforts to eradicate straw houses.

In addition to that project, he also praised its programs for the construction of modern latrines and the availability of clean water in certain provinces, but pleads for its extension throughout the country. He asked the Red Cross to intervene in other development sectors without leaving behind the project: “Ewe Burundi urambaye”. Still on behalf of the said ministry, Mr. Banyiyezako took the opportunity to urge parents to send their children to school, explaining that the place of the child is on the school bench.

Speaking, the secretary general of the Burundi Red Cross, Mr. Enselme Katiyunguruza said that this movement has already taken charge of the solidarity program. He urged the beneficiaries to be exemplary and the community leaders to sensitize their neighbors to transform their houses into model households. These ceremonies saw the participation of the representative of the Red Cross in Belgium, Mr. Toni Adama.
