BUJUMBURA April 8th (ABP) – The actors of the education system of Bujumbura City have been participating since Thursday, April 7, 2022, in an awareness session on the importance of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in schools, a check by ABP revealed.

That two-day activity was part of the implementation of the project “digital solutions at the service of basic education” which was officially launched by the Coalition Education for All – Bafashebige – (EPT Bafashebige Coalition). The project is funded by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) through the Backup Initiative implemented by GIZ.

According to the EPT Bafashebige Coalition, recent analyses in the education sector have shown that thousands of children remain outside the education system and that the quality of education remains a source of concern.

For the Bafashebige Coalition, the ideal would be for the education sector in Burundi to take advantage of the opportunities offered by technological developments in terms of distance learning, that is, moving from learning in classrooms (linear learning) to distance learning.

Thus, distance learning helping equipping, training and raising awareness of the actors of the education system of 15 pilot institutions of the basic school, distributed throughout the country, are on the agenda of that project.

In her opening speech for that training session, the provincial director of education in Bujumbura City, Mrs. Fidélité Nijimbere, commended such an “ambitious” process of strategic transformation of the education system initiated by the EPT Bafashebige Coalition in collaboration with its partners who will contribute to the program set up.

“We have faith in the reform undertaken, the goal of which is to meet the various challenges facing education and we firmly believe that this project will undeniably contribute to the strengthening of the programs put in place for the country, in particular the transversal issue: “the inclusive, equitable and quality education”, the director of education in Bujumbura City specified.
