MURAMVYA March 4th (ABP) – The vice chairman of the Sangwe cooperative at Kavya hill, in Bugarama zone of Muramvya province (central-western Burundi), Régis Ndayisaba, indicated that 340 members of the cooperative have started since Wednesday the harvest of potatoes grown on a one-hectare plot where more than 12 tons of harvest are expected. He said they are very happy with the good harvest and advises other cooperatives that have not yet had the expected production to apply the practices taught by the agricultural and livestock technicians to all levels. These technicians have helped a lot so that the “Sangwe Dufatane mu nda” cooperative can reach an important stage, he said. He said that the 340 members are mobilized to use the same methods in their fields. Here, the vice-president of this cooperative said that the members who benefit from potato or corn seeds at affordable prices, are called upon to do everything to have a production higher than expected.

Among the challenges of the Sangwe cooperative of Kavya village is the lack of its own storage shed and proper land for their cooperative. The latter has, in its prospects, the desire to have a property for the cultivation of corn, potatoes and even vegetables with the aim of achieving the variation of commercial products.

The adviser to the communal administrator of Muramvya in charge of development, Herman Manirampa, who also closely follows the activities of the sangwe cooperatives which have benefited from credits from the commune, says that the commune Muramvya positively appreciates the fields and harvests but also the domestic animals all belonging to that cooperative. He took this opportunity to encourage good governance and leadership of the said cooperative.

Note that the Sangwe Dufatane mu nda cooperative in Kavya village counts among its wealth 15 cows and a good number of pigs.
