NGOZI January 21st (ABP) – The province of Ngozi has experienced in recent days a surge in the prices of basic necessities, we can see on the spot in Ngozi. In the central market of Ngozi as in the other markets, prices have risen so much compared to those practiced last November.

That is the case of rice which rose for all varieties by at least 500BIF per kilo. The rise can also be seen on corn and cassava flour, palm and cottonseed oil, Savonor laundry soap which reached 700 BIF per piece, suddenly dropping to 400 BIF.

The banana diet increased on average from 2000 to 4000 BIF. Relative stability is observed for beans and potatoes. As regards processed products for industry, in addition to price speculation, there is also an unprecedented shortage.

That concerns fuel, BUCECO cement and BRARUDI products. More serious are the speculations observed on SOSUMO sugar sold clandestinely for 6000 BIF per kilo. The consumers met at the Ngozi central market are crying foul.

They seek the intervention of the public authorities to stop if not lower the prices especially since the purchasing power of the buyers does not follow the same rhythm.
