CIBITOKE January 17th (ABP) – Rain mixed with hail and strong winds that fell on the afternoon of January 13, in Ruhagarika village in Buganda commune, Cibitoke province (north-west of Burundi), caused human and material damage, according to the communal administration.
An old woman died under the collapse of the walls of her house, while her husband was injured. At least 62 residential houses were destroyed, a church was destroyed and eleven electricity poles fell to the ground. Crops have been damaged and power cuts are feared for the urban centers of Gasenyi and Murwi.
The administration calls on the local people for community solidarity with the victims.
