BUJUMBURA January 5th (ABP) – The new market of Kamenge, inaugurated on December 8, 2021, offers more facilities to its users compared to the old buildings, a check on the site by ABP made an observation on Monday, January 3, 2021.

Users of the Kamenge market are delighted among other things with the emergency routes which are large, the securing of their goods with those new buildings which are hermetically closed after market hours, and the presence of constant elements of Burundi national police.

That infrastructure has parking, premises for branches of banking or micro-finance institutions and an infirmary. Users of that market are already delighted with the opening of a counter of the Burundi Trade Bank (BANCOBU) and hope that other banks or microfinance institutions will soon follow in BANCOBU’s footsteps.

In addition, the market has toilets in sufficient number, with constant water and electricity, whereas previously, users had to turn back to households in the vicinity of that market to relieve themselves.

Those users of the market nonetheless call for a reduction in the fees charged by the tenant of the toilets in that market. According to the users of the market, a sum of 200 BIF is required to have access to toilets. Thus, they ask that this price be reduced at least to 100 BIF.

As a reminder, that new market was built thanks to the strong involvement of the highest authorities of the Republic of Burundi, including Burundi Head of State Evariste Ndayishimiye at the top, after a fire damaged it.
