A hippopotamus was found dead in lake Rweru

KIRUNDO September 14^th (ABP) – A hippopotamus was found dead on Thursday September 9, 2021 in Lake Rweru in Gatare village in Busoni commune in Kirundo province (northern Burundi), we learned from the Burundian Office for Environmental Protection (OBPE). According to the provincial responsible for the protection of aquatic areas for the northern lakes, Diomede Manariyo, that hippopotamus may have been killed by another during a fight because it has a lot of bite wounds. He added that teeth from the same mammal were also found next to the corpse. Note that for the moment Lake Rweru is full of many hippos compared to previous years and that thanks to the buffer zones which are well protected.
